British number one Andy Murray has had to sit out of a tennis competition after damaging a nerve in his bottom while asleep.

The planet number three said that he has damage his sciatic nerve in his right buttock overnight on the night of Monday 31 October. He woke the following morning incapable of walk properly, and a visit to the doctors verified that he had weakened a nerve.

Murray was supposed to be playing in the Swiss Indoors Competition in Basel, with his first match up against the Dutch player Robin Haase, but withdrew to get better. He had also been due to play in a doubles game at the tournament with his brother Jamie.

He expects to have recovered in time to compete in the Paris Masters and ATP World Finals, which both take place after November.
